In a tough battle vs conference opponent Charlevoix, our varsity girls basketball team came up short in the end. The girls battled hard all evening and had to overcome early foul trouble that caused our bench to really step up and we are so proud of how they stepped up to the challenge. The Vikings were led by Makayla Watkins with 19 points. Cali D'Amour and Ali Helinski both chipped in with 4 points each.

Varsity girls basketball lost to Petoskey 22-54 last night. Unfortunately, we started off slow, not being able to hit our open looks, and fell into a quick hole against a very good Petoskey team. They crashed the boards, providing them with second and third shot opportunities that they eventually connected on. The Vikes settled down and started to make a push but came up short in the end. The girls fought all game long, making some great plays on both ends of the floor.  We were led by Makayla Watkins with 14 points.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK MaKayla Watkins (varsity basketball) and Kaleb Hall (varsity basketball) Mak has been averaging double-digit points each of our first three games along with 8 rebounds and 7 steals per game. She has been a strong on-floor leader as well as off the floor. Kaleb does a lot of the little things! He plays disciplined basketball. Kaleb leads the team in charges taken, sets great screens for his teammates, and isn't afraid to get on the floor for a loose ball.

Varsity girls basketball topped Mancelona 48-26 last night. It was a back-and-forth game for the first three quarters, and Grayling battled hard on the defensive end of the floor, limiting Mancelona to just 22 points through three, However, we also could not find our rhythm on the offensive side until late in the game. In the final seconds of the third quarter, Amanda Lewis hit a huge three to ignite the crowd and the team going into the fourth quarter. From there, our team never looked back, outscoring Mancelona 22-4 in the 4th quarter with great scoring from Makayla Watkins who scored 10 of her team-high 19 points that quarter. Amanda Lewis had 12 points, Emma Kuziel added 8, and Jill Hartman chipped in 6.

Maddox Mead led with 15 points, followed by Fletcher Quinlan, Ethan Kucharek and Kaleb Hall with 12 points each. Tristan Demlow added 10 points. The Vikings' team defense was suffocating most of the night. Their next game will be at home vs a tough Boyne City team on Friday night.
