Boys bowling competed in the Northern Michigan Bowling Conference Tournament at Rogers City on Saturday. Boyne City took home the regular season crown, but we had ourselves a day and took home the tournament championship. After some good Baker Games 181, 192, 176 and 176, Grayling went into the 5 person individual game with a 12 pin lead. Boyne City and the others started out hot, but we weathered the storm and came from behind and took the lead late in the match behind some absolutely great bowling from Gibsen Barnett. Gib had the high game of 256, Tom Helsel bowled 152, Gage Modert had a 172, Mitch Harrington scored 188 and Bryce Malcolm had 148. The Vikings won the tournament with a total pin count of 1,641, 42 pins more than Boyne City. It was a great boost for the team heading to Cheboygan for Regionals where we hope to be one of the top two teams of 12 competing in Division 3, Region 17. Also crowned this weekend was our NMBC All-Conference team. Gibsen and Mitch took home two of the five All-Conference slots. Congratulations to them and all of our bowlers as all five were in the top 15 spots out of at least 40 available conference bowlers.

In a game where we had early foul trouble, the varsity girls banded together and fought their way out of an early deficit, defeating Cheboygan 52-46 last night. At one point, down double digits, the Lady Vikes cranked up the defensive pressure, outscoring Cheboygan 27-15 in the second half and only allowing 4 points in the 4th quarter. A huge 3 pointer from Cali D’Amour in the 4th tied the game and from there the defense took over and we finished the game on strong ball movement and finishes around the rim. We were also able to hit late free throws to ice the game. Tonight we had balanced scoring with 11 from Makayla Watkins, 10 from Emma Kuziel, 9 from Cali D’Amour, 8 from Amanda Lewis, 7 from Ali Helinski, and a clutch 6 points from Olivia Duba. #leadthecharge
